Tell about yourself a little bit… How did you become a photographer?

I’m Mikel Rome and I’m 34. I’ve been interested in photography since I was child. I’d see my father take his Canon AE-1 on all his trips and he’d then make slides for us to see afterwards. When I was a teenager, I got into photography again and started to teach myself. I learnt how to observe, understand lighting and use my camera. Once I learnt the basics, I found Black Passport by Stanley Greene in one of my town’s libraries and realized I wanted to take photos to show those things that most people don’t see, such as events, or unfair situations. I wanted to tell stories that would make different worlds closer.

What has been the biggest lesson you have learned as a photographer?
