Interview & Photographs:

Paul Cary Goldberg

Tell about yourself a little bit… How did you become a photographer?

I was in my last semester, finishing up a masters degree in journalism, when I took a photojournalism course. I had already been photographing and teaching myself darkroom technique for my own satisfaction for a few years, which I enjoyed tremendously. The teacher was the head of a wire service in Boston and he started to buy some of my photos to send to newspapers across the country, and I thought, OK, that means I really am pretty good. So that gave me confidence, and I was hooked. (Never bothered to finish my MA in journalism.)

What has been the biggest lesson you have learned as a photographer?

There are always more and better…
