Zigzag kids are the children of every moment and place. They have only just arrived in this intricate world, and they seem to move through it with an apparent lack of awareness about its rules, structures, and expectations. They are fresh to life, unburdened by preconceived notions or inherited systems of belief. What tools do they have at their disposal? On the surface, it appears they possess only their senses—eyes wide with wonder, ears open to every whisper of sound, fingers eager to touch and explore. But in reality, they wield something far more powerful than adults often realize.

Zigzag kids look at the world with a purity and clarity that grown-ups, over time, tend to lose. Their minds zigzag, darting from one observation to the next, from fascination to fascination, without the need for explanation or reason.

As adults, we often lose this ability to see with wonder, to exist purely in the moment. We get tangled in routines, absorbed by obligations, and consumed by the need to make sense of everything. Over time, we construct mental frameworks that become rigid, limiting our capacity for discovery. Zigzag kids, however, remind us of a different way of being. In their seemingly chaotic movements, there is a deeper wisdom: the understanding that life, at its core, is not a puzzle to be solved but a mystery to be experienced, just as it appears to us when we first open our eyes upon being born from our mothers’ wombs.

Perhaps, if we take the time to observe these zigzagging little explorers, we might rediscover something we once knew instinctively. We might remember that the world is not something to be mastered or controlled, but something to be engaged with. We are reminded that life is not merely about getting from one point to the other, from the beginning to the end; it is about zigzagging through the in-between.
