Lukas Artmann

hi! my mom called me lukas, so that’s my name. i’m from leipzig, germany. i would describe myself as an “introvert in an extrovert’s body”, and like many introverts do, i observe people quite often. when i started to work with cameras back in 2019, i finally found a way to visualize my observations. since then, i try to have at least one camera with me 24/7. 

i believe that our world is a system, that’s constantly changing. every action, no matter how small, has an impact on this system. that’s why we got pollution, or climate change, or war. it all starts with millions of small everyday interactions, human-to-human and human-to-environment. these small everyday interactions are the core of my work and photographical output. in most of my photographies, i try to spotlight these small actions, leaving the viewer with room for interpretation on the impact. i want to show, that all of our actions have consequences, sometimes small and sometimes big. 

speaking of small and big, i observed that humanity got a pretty big ego. and since i can’t stand narcissism, i usually portray people very small in my photographies. because in the end, each of us is only a small part of the bigger picture. pun intended.

with all that said, i want to thank the docu magazine team for giving me this opportunity to not only get published, but also spreading my working ethos with a wider range of people. projects like this are sooo important for all the small, but not less talented artists out there.
