Miranda Signore: Reflecting in Nature

Finding reflection shots in nature is always a highlight of my photography journey. 

I have been enamored with the landscape of the Western United States since childhood.  Being out in the wilderness and feeling at one with nature holds a special place in my heart.  It is out in nature amongst these amazing landscapes that I feel most capable of introspection and deep self-exploration.  It is when I find the most clarity in my purpose and feel a complete sense of being interconnected with everything around me.  I feel an indescribable unity with the universe and a sense of spirituality. 

Photographing these landscapes are a way for me to capture forever, not just the beauty of nature, but the feelings of overwhelming gratitude and awe I feel in those moments.  Reflection shots amplify those feelings for me as I love the sense of tranquility and serenity they ooze.  I love the unparalleled symmetry still water can create and equally love seeing mirrored nature in an abstract form should wind produce a ripple in the water. 

In this photo series I have captured desert reflections, all created by leftover puddles from monsoon season in Arizona to the iconic Snake River reflection shot of the Teton Range at Schwabacher’s Landing in Wyoming – and a little bit of everything in between – including reflections courtesy of the Pacific Ocean and several different lakes throughout several different states.

Traveling, hiking, and being out in nature while taking photographs all give me the biggest feelings of joy, which is only enhanced by spotting a good reflection opportunity and makes the experience even more memorable.  An ordinary scene can quickly be transformed into a magical and mesmerizing composition with a little help from some water.
