In the quiet moments before a performance, performers shed their everyday selves and become vessels for stories. Witnessing this metamorphosis, a blend of nervous anticipation and unwavering dedication, is a privilege that reveals the dedication required to bring a character to life. This transformation is particularly striking in traditional arts like bhutakola and the karaga festival, where performers undergo a profound shift, embodying deities or mythical figures.

This project focuses on capturing these backstage moments – the transformation from person to performer, from individual to storyteller. Through the lens, I strive to document not just the final act on stage, but the raw energy and focused concentration that fuels these artists. Whether it’s the bhutakola performers donning intricate masks and costumes or the karaga bearers balancing towering structures on their heads.

This behind-the-scenes perspective offers a unique lens into the world of performance, offering a deeper appreciation for the artistry and dedication involved.
