Niina Nikkanen: Pulled by the Stars

I would almost suggest that you skip this text for now and return to it after you’ve seen my work. I’m curious whether your experience will mirror mine or take you somewhere entirely different. 

When I look at these photos, I hear music. Often, I hear it even before I press the shutter. There’s a long playlist of songs that inspired these images—or were inspired by them. Equally, I have been moved by the writings of Anaïs Nin, Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and the myth of Hades and Persephone. And, as always, I am inspired by nature and its changing seasons. 

Much like Alice’s journey in Wonderland, this is my year-long descent down the rabbit hole—a place between dream and reality—where I sought to reconnect with my wild nature, to feel free again, to dance under the stars. This is my love affair with beauty.
