Alexander Talver – MAA ILM

Moving to London at the age of 7 meant that I grew up in a home away from home. I always felt like I didn’t belong in London and after spending my adolescence growing up in the UK, I didn’t feel that I belonged back home in Estonia either. My love of photography, which I now confide in, grew from my existence in limbo, caused by my lack of belonging, as a means of understanding myself and everyone around me. My lens could see better than my eyes did and without my camera I would still be floating in the ether. This series is a fervent documentation of the rich nature of Estonia, my love. The english eyes which I now use to look upon my home see the flora and fauna from a new perspective. My heart lies in nature. The warm embrace of nature in Estonia holds me close. I fall back and let the bush absorb me. My eyes now digest the green Estonian fields I grew up in with foreign benevolence. Having lived in London for the majority of my life means I see the land with a new love. The nature warms me and holds me close.
