Jacopo Agostini: Faces and Streets

Born in 1994 in Este, a town at the foot of the Euganean Hills, Jacopo Agostini graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Padua and then pursued a double master’s degree at the EHESS in Paris and the HSE in Moscow. His research involves ethnographies and participant observations of ethnic minorities, social movements and indigenous communities in conflict situations.

During one of his trips to Asia, he discovered a passion for photography, particularly the countless expressions, physiognomies, and faces he encountered in the streets. Through capturing every view and moment of life, age, and social class, he regarded photography as both a lens and a medium for deeper insight.

Running alongside this, there is a passion – later to become a project – that he has pursued since his adolescence: urban exploration, or urbex. He explores structures forged by man’s hand, often abandoned, in ruins, forgotten or made off-limits, from the Sahara Desert to the Far East. The photography of abandoned places, within a spatial and temporal dimension that is detached from the rest of society, is written and subsequently rewritten through his documentation.

He currently contributes to the newspaper “il Manifesto” and the magazine “Arte e Dossier” and is involved in various projects with the European Union.
