Jeff Rothstein – Blinded by the light

Over the past few years, I have spent some sizable time looking over my files. In the process, I found that I’ve accumulated many shots of people shielding their eyes from the sun. Sunlight can get pretty intense on the streets of New York City. It may be the harsh light of a mid-afternoon sky, during the summer or any other time. It can be angled low during clear winter months. And the pedestrians react differently to them.  It’s fun to shoot these photos and fun to view them. Without knowing, I have created an ongoing series of these images. The selection here were all taken between 2021 and 2024 on Broadway in Soho and Fifth Avenue near Rockefeller Center.
