Matthias Tüchler

I have been working under the pseudonym Freigeist (ger. free spirit) for about 16 years now. My name is Mat but I should probably be called Jack because you won’t find anybody who’s interested in more trades but yet has mastered not a single one. I have always been a curious person, especially when it comes to creative pursuits. I have dabbled in various forms of writing, videography, analogue and digital drawing, 3D modelling and production of all kinds.

I’ve always been a dreamer like that, and I suppose that’s exactly what inspires my photography most of the time. My eyes wander and I try to look at the places, things and people, that we usually miss out on. In life, everything – including us – always moves. Situations, experiences and encounters pass and often pass us by. We rarely stop to consider the moment and actually perceive it in all its facets. Those are the kind of photographs that I love. The ones that put us right there into the shoes of the photographer.

With experience I was lucky enough to get to gather more tools to express just these instances and try to communicate them in my work. A big thank you to all the amazing photographers and various creative people I got to learn from! Next to technique and composition, I try to put in a lot of intent – because I want people to view my photos with the same intent and awareness I had in those moments.

So hopefully, I was able to capture that spirit and pull you in with some of my work.
