Renzo Rizzo – My Rome: people and views

Rome is too large and crowded for me to conceive it as a whole. So I live it as if it was a small town. Which it is so long as you know where to look. I like its narrow cobblestones streets, its lights in the bright blue mornings and orange afternoons, the red and yellow of its rugged walls. This heart of Rome would not be itself without its people, visitors or residents, that I like to capture in moments of quiet intimacy, distant from the crows. My view is certainly romantic, probably influenced by the watercolors of Ettore Roesler Franz, who portrayed a city that was almost bygone at the time of his paintings but that still exists if you look well enough. I am very critic of how Rome is managed and of the behavior of many of its visitors and citizens. But by showing it as a nice, almost intimate town I hope to foster a renewed love for this beautiful and mistreated city.
