Kuma – bosnian word for godmother, maid of honor, much more than just a friend
This photo series is part of my ongoing photo project about Bosnia, the country of my birth. The country from which my family and I had to flee in the early 90s and which for me is always associated with war, nostalgia, wonderful food, great music and healing nature.
It’s a documentary project that I don’t yet know exactly where it will take me, I just know it’s about war, trauma and healing.
These pictures were taken during the KUMA International Summer School 2024, a program by the wonderful Dr. Claudia Zini, which deals with Bosnian art in the context of war, post-war and trauma.
All pictures were taken in Sarajevo and Goražde. Both cities were under siege for several years during the war.
