Thomas St.Croix

My name is Thomas St.Croix, Im a photographer from East London with a focus on the individual rather than groups of subjects, regardless of the scene I find them in, chaotic or peaceful.

Within my work I always try to keep in mind and portray the idea of sonder; a profound realisation that everyone has a life just as complex as our own. I’d like for my photography to try and decipher and explore this idea by promoting viewers what my subject’s thoughts, identities their stories could possibly entail. To capture these moments, I often times will covertly capture my subjects and refrain from manufacturing the scenes shown in my images, as to preserve the purity of moment. Following this artistic process has allowed me to capture moments of genuine intimacy, which would otherwise go left unseen to the world. I think it’s important we recognise and more importantly remember this idea of sonder, since in this day and age especially, is it so easy to get caught up in our own worlds that we forget to empathise with others.
