William Baker Brake: Ephemera / Beauty Is Paper Thin
My name is William Brake. I am from the state of Georgia in the USA. At the time of this magazine’s publication, I am living in South Korea. I have been practicing street photography since early 2024.
All photos in this magazine were taken in the first half of 2024, and they summarize my thoughts ans observations after having in South Korea for five years.
The first part, “Ephemera”, is a reflection of everyday moments which I’ve observed as a persistent outsider to Korean culture. It additionally shows the reemergence of daily life in South Korea after more than three years of pandemic-era worries and restrictions.
The second part, “Beauty Is Paper Thin”, explores the interplay between beauty standards, consumer culture, and contemporary social issues.
Two color photos are included at the end of this magazine as a bonus.
I hope that my photos may be of interest to others who are also making sense of their place in unfamiliar surroundings.
